SKETCHING MUSICIANS AT MINEHEAD BAY FESTIVAL

Minehead Bay Festival is a wild crazy family day festival held each year on the sea front of the Somerset town of Minehead on the edge of Exmoor. A final blast of energy for the tourists and local families before the kids go back to school, its not a quiet event and its a great opportunity to let off steam and have some fun.

Myself and sculpture Melanie Deegan braved the coastal winds and had a pop up exhibition in a gazebo next to the Busk Station. Whilst we chatted with the public, sold our wares and handed out leaflets we were entertained by the Buskers. Eventually I couldn’t help myself and my iPad came out and I had to sketch the artistes who came to tear their hearts out on stage. As we worked at our pitch all day we only caught glimpses of the days events, the screams of delight coming from the skateboard park that was built for the day to host some bonkers skateboarding demos certainly seemed a crowd pleaser. There were bands on the main stage all afternoon and am impressive array of food and drink stands. The kids education team from East Quay were there too running art workshops for younger children and there was much more going on that I just couldn’t get to hear or watch.

Big thanks to the Minehead and Coast Development Trust who put on the event it certainly was a hit and very well attended.
