Doris Hatt was a pioneer of British Modernism and a woman ahead of her time. She came to Watchet and made playful stylised paintings of the Esplanade. She was influenced by 20th-century Modernism, including Cubism and Abstraction, and by artists such as Braque and Léger.

Bring a chair or any tired object to give a new lease of life and learn how to give it a decorative coat of paint NB: some prep work required as a base coat of white undercoat will be needed first and allow 24hrs to dry. Students will need to bring their visual inspiration or design with them and Alison will show you how to adapt them to your object and make it work as a painted design.

Come and have some fun with other design-tech-challenged people in Alison’s art studio. Alison is a trained professional graphic designer and fine artist who will show you how to easily make your design work with simple, cheap or free design tools which will help you design like a pro.
Let’s look at Canva and Photopea in more detail. Produce layouts, design and typesetting skills with free software to amaze. Learn new skills to get your promotional material looking sexy and eye catching. We will also learn how to share your creations and how to send them to print.
This class is intended for beginners and you don’t have to be creative or artistic in anyway. It is likely to be a very useful introduction to self-starters on a low budget who are exploring how to create their own attractive graphics cheaply to help with their businesses or hobbies or just for fun.
Alison studied Graphic Design at Somerset University as a mature student, worked in London on well-known brands and has freelanced on and off in Somerset since 2001. She enjoys combining her illustration skills with graphics and loves designing illustrated maps including the Watchet Tourism Map. Alison is a passionate fine artist and practices from her studio at East Quay Watchet overlooking the Bristol Channel, next to the Somerset coastal path which is a source of great inspiration to her work.
